Interim Pastor Tom Crenshaw
Tom grew up in Watertown, New York. He served for 27 years as a pastor before the Lord led him to a teaching and coaching career in 1995. He served 4 years as pastor of the Pompey United Church in Syracuse, New York; 7 years as senior pastor of the Cedar Park Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pa; 7 years as the senior pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, Pa., and 6 years as the senior pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, (Tower Hill) in Red Bank, New Jersey. In 1995 he embarked on a teaching and coaching career, and taught two years at Central Jersey Christian School in Asbury Park, New Jersey. He then taught history and the Bible and coached football and basketball at Westminster Academy, a part of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. In 2000, after four years at Westminster Academy, he became the chaplain, athletic director, and boys’ varsity basketball coach for Calvary Christian Academy, a part of Calvary Chapel, Fort Lauderdale. While serving with the school from 2000-20008, Tom also participated as member of the Calvary Chapel church staff
Tom came to Christ in 1962 at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Conference in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and throughout much of his life he has served on state FCA boards. Tom has a love for athletics and he captained both his football and baseball teams in high school and in college. He attended the Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee University from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965. He attended Princeton Theological Seminary and graduated in 1968 with a Master of Divinity degree. He has also done graduate work at Monmouth University.
Tom and his wife, Jean, have four grown children, Sarah, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Tommy. and four grandchildren. He enjoys fishing for smallmouth bass in northern New York, umpires high school baseball and collects baseball memorabilia.
Pastor Tom has a heart for evangelism and equipping, and his life verse is Ephesians 4:11-12. His desire is to see the church equipped “to do the work of ministry.” It was D. L. Moody who said “I would rather put a 1000 men to work than do the work of a 1000 men,” and throughout his ministry he has sought to train up the laity for ministry. Tom often says, “there is no success without a successor,” and his goal is to help every member discover, develop and deploy his/her spiritual gifts.” In the church we must do everything possible to help “every member become a minister.”
